Experience
From a ill-treated youth by my peers growing up and throughout my educational experiences, I pledged myself to improve the lives of others for the betterment of our community. Upon entering my undergraduate schooling at Radford University, I was originally a mathematics major. Conversely finding that not to be as fulfilling as my potential could allow, so I changed it to psychology; being as that I had always enjoyed helping others in various mentality ways of living. Once obtaining my Bachelor of Science degree in psychology, I acquired a job as a mental health counselor at a local psychiatric near my house. Facilitating therapeutic groups and working with a large variety of people was something I enjoyed very much, but I knew that I could still strive for a better and more purposeful career. That brought me to my decision of becoming an elementary school teacher. So I decided to go back to school after having obtained a degree from a university, multiple credits from a community college, and to now take educational courses to see if that was the right choice of action. Throughout the duration of the semester of educational courses that included: social/cultural foundations of education, educational applications of computers, and fundamental human growth and development; I began to see the most self-fulfilling prophecy that I could have ever hoped for. It was through these classes and experience of observing elementary school classes by assisting the teacher instruct the children that I knew I wanted to be a teacher. And now as a substitute teacher for the Virginia Beach City Public Schools System for two years I have gained the knowledge and experience of gaining knowledge in the classroom; both as an educator and as a student.
